Description
The garden gates, piers, and walls at Sharsted Court date from the 18th century and late 19th century. They feature wrought iron gates along with brick and flint walls. The main gates, located southwest of Sharsted Court, are from the 18th century and were re-erected in 1882. These double carriage gates lead to the drive and are flanked by brick piers topped with winged bulls. On either side, there are pedestrian gates with elaborate overthrows and brick piers adorned with winged lions. The garden wall is recessed towards the gates. There is also a second 18th-century pedestrian gate with an overthrow located northwest of the house, opposite the main door, providing access to a walled yew garden. The gardens consist of a series of walled enclosures and terraces, surrounded by a boundary wall. While some of the walling is from the 18th century, most is 19th-century brick and flint, featuring arcades around the terraces and walled gardens. Additionally, there are several brick gates dated from 1877 to 1900, and a small conical summerhouse made of flint, built into the wall, is situated to the north.
