Description
Gardener's Lodge is a gardener's lodge with a covered arcade, built in 1860 by Benjamin Adkins in the Picturesque Gothic style. It is constructed of yellow brick with red brick dressings on the ground floor and tile hung above. The building has a tiled roof with stock brick chimneystacks and is T-shaped with three gables featuring elaborate carved bargeboards. The north gable includes an iron weathervane with the Town Arms, a mullioned and transomed oriel window supported on brackets, and an arched entrance below. Attached at ground floor level is a cleverly designed covered arcade that provides shelter for the public. This arcade has polychrome brickwork on the rear and side walls, a half hipped tiled roof, and is supported by four wooden piers on each side. The rear elevation of the lodge features casement windows. This lodge with its covered arcade is a most unusual combination.
