Dunstall Priory TQ 5261 31/1219 10.9.54.

II

  1. This small mansion was built about 1810 by an architect called Lugar, a contemporary of John Nash, and is very similar in design to a number of houses built by Nash such as Cronkhill near Shrewsbury or Sandridge in Devon. Dunstall Priory is typical of the Rural Palladian style combining the simplest classical shape with varied planning and picturesque silhouette. The chief feature of the house is a round tower with conical slate roof and irregular-shaped 2-storey main structure adjacent. Elevations of stucco with incised lines in imitation of stone courses, projecting eaves with plastered soffit and Welsh slate roof. Round-headed sash windows and French casements on ground floor with canopied verandah. The interior plan is interesting with Regency bowed room formed in the base of the tower. Dunstall Priory was the house of the late Lord Dunsany.
