Description
Kingsdown Mill is a smock mill dating from around 1800. It has an octagonal weatherboarded structure sitting on a rectangular base made of red brick. The cap is boat-shaped, and only the middlings of the sweeps remain, while the fantail has been restored. Originally, this mill was located at Chinham Farm in Farningham, where David Norton was the miller in the early 19th century. In 1880, it was moved to its current site by his grandson, Tanner Norton, where it stood next to a post mill that was destroyed by fire in 1909. A stone in the foundations is inscribed with "Minnie Louisa Norton, 21st April 1880." The mill last operated in 1928.
