Description

This early 20th-century electrical junction box, manufactured by Hardy and Padmore of Worcester, is a group value example of a cast iron utility feature. The box is pillar-like and rectangular, standing approximately 1.5 metres high, 0.3 metres wide, and 0.3 metres deep. It faces north-west and is situated on the pavement beside a retaining wall. The box is topped with a pyramidal cap above a dentilled cornice, which is supported at each corner by slender colonettes. The faces are decorated with moulded panelling and raised designs; the central three panels feature foliage in the corners. The front face bears a circular maker’s mark identifying Hardy Padmore Limited, Worcester. Oval motifs appear on the side faces, along with integral, moulded door handles. The rear face is partially hidden by the adjacent wall.
