Description

Park House is a row of 18th century red brick terrace houses located on the east side of High Street. The building stands two storeys high and features a parapet with stone coping and a ridge mansard roof that is hipped at both ends. It has a coursed stone plinth and a basement with an area that includes 18th century cast iron railings in front of Nos 38 and 42.

The front elevation displays flat arches made of rubbed red headers over the windows, with brick pilasters extending up two storeys between Nos 38 and 40 and between Nos 40 and 42. There are six widely spaced sash windows on the first floor, with a slightly recessed portion on the extreme right that has one sash window. The roof includes six modern flat-roofed leaded dormers.

No 38 features an 18th century panelled door with top lights and a rectangular fanlight above, along with one sash window to the left of the door. No 40 has a modern slightly-bowed Georgian style shop front within a pilastered frame, complete with a moulded entablature and a sunblind case above. To the left of the shop front, there is an arched brick opening with a window and a recessed 18th century panelled door with a fanlight above. No 42 has a modern half-glazed door and a sash window to the right, as well as a small modern octagon window on the extreme right. No 44 features an arched brick opening and a sash window to the right, along with a modern slightly-bowed Georgian style shop front in a pilastered frame with an entablature and sunblind case above.

The front elevation of this row has undergone various alterations and restorations over time, and the sash windows on both floors vary in size and shape, with some retaining their glazing bars.
