Description

The former Church of St Lawrence is a 19th-century rebuilding that retains a medieval north doorway in the north face of its tower. The building is constructed from local sandstone rubble and ashlar, with freestone dressings and red clay tile roofs.

The plan includes a nave, chancel, northwest tower-porch, and a south transeptal projection, which likely served as a former vestry. The northeast corner features a large squat, unbuttressed tower that incorporates a pointed medieval doorway with a moulded arch and a hood-mould with stops. The top of the tower has plain single-light lancets, and the squat spire is of the chamfer type. The east end displays a pair of lancet windows with a circular, cinquefoiled window positioned between and above them. The west window features three lancets grouped under a hood-mould. There is no distinction between the levels of the nave and chancel roofs, and on the south side, there is a gabled projection with a pair of lancet windows in the south wall.

The interior has been converted into living accommodation and was not inspected. The church was converted to residential use around 1980. The site is of archaeological interest due to the potential remains of the medieval church and burials.
