Description
The garden walls attached to Otterden Place were built in the early 19th century, with part of the structure dated 1825. They are made of red brick with grey brick interspersed throughout. The inner wall encloses the drive and a small garden on the south and east sides of the house. A simpler brick-coped wall extends south from this, enclosing a large rectangular area and connecting to the stables along the west side. A tall, exaggerated four-centred arch with latticed wooden gates and a crenellated wall above it separates the south front of the house from the kitchen wing to the west. The drive enters from the east, where the walls are lower and form a plinth for a crenellated wooden paling, which is interrupted by four small crenellated piers made of diapered brickwork.
