Description
No. 35 High Street is a shop that was originally a house, built in the 16th century. The building was refronted in the early 19th century and features a fine shopfront from the late 19th century. Its exterior is clad in stucco, topped with a slate roof and a stock brick chimney stack. The building has three storeys and one window. The second floor window is hidden by a large advertisement board, while the first floor window is a mid-19th century sash with marginal glazing. The ground floor showcases a late 19th century shopfront with a deep fascia displaying the name "Reynolds" and decorative scrollwork, along with a curved shop window and pilasters. Inside, the ground floor reveals a 16th century roll-moulded ceiling that is exposed above a 20th century false ceiling. There is an 18th century winder staircase. The front room on the first floor retains a late 16th century frame with a curved tension brace, a 2-inch chamfered beam with run-out stop, and a 3-plank door. Additional features include a further curved brace and a jowled post. Access to the second floor or roof is not available.
