Description

St Andrew's Arts Centre, originally known as St Andrew's Waterside Chapel, was built between 1870 and 1871 by architect G.E. Street. This Gothic-style building has a rectangular plan and is constructed from ragstone with Bath stone dressings, topped with a slate roof. The west side features a former carthex with a lean-to roof behind a parapet, a central doorway with a segmental Gothic arch, and a flat-arched three-light window on each side of the door. Under the west gable, there are five stepped lancets, and a large stone bellcote rises from the apex of the gable. The side elevation includes three lancet windows, while the east end boasts a three-light plate traceried window. Inside, the vaulted roof is lined with pine boarding and has moulded ribs, along with a coved cornice and stained glass windows. The former mission chapel has been repurposed as an Arts Centre.
