Description
This is a barn dating from the 18th century, located about 10 metres south-east of Boyke Manor in Elham. The structure is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a plinth made of flint and stone, with a hipped thatched roof. It features four timber-framed bays with front and rear aisles, built at right angles to the road. There is a midstrey in the second bay from the right (west) and a porch to the right of centre that rises from the aisle. The porch has a hipped roof that jetties forward on straight brackets and includes double doors with weatherboarding above. There are low doors at the rear and a front stable door at the right end bay.
Inside, the principal posts flanking the midstrey at the front have ogee soffits to their jowls. The two right bays have collars and staggered butt purlins, while the rest features a high clasped purlin. The tie-beams and arcade plates have virtually straight arch braces, and there are long raking braces to the aisle walls. There is evidence of fire damage. The barn is included for its group value.
