Description
No. 86 High Street is a building that likely once served as an inn, dating from the 18th century. It is three storeys tall and constructed of red brick, featuring a parapet. The front has four sash windows with intact glazing bars, although there is a modern shop window on the west half. On the east side, there is a doorcase with pilasters, a projecting cornice, and a six-panel moulded door. At the west end, a narrow strip is fronted with weatherboarding, which includes a curved bay window on the first floor with intact glazing bars, and below it is a carriage entrance with doors that probably led to the inn yard. Inside, there is a notable early 19th-century marble fireplace decorated with urns, leaves, and antique figures. Nos. 86 to 90 form a group.
