Description

The National Westminster Bank, located at 73 to 79 High Street, was built in 1912 by Banister Fletcher & Sons. It is a two-storey building constructed of red brick, with decorative panelling. The building has a parapet and a brick cornice ornamented with modillions. The upper storey features seven sash windows, each fitted with shutters. Ten pilasters add vertical emphasis to the facade. The two stone doorcases, one at each end of the building, are distinguished by curved open pediments, blank cartouches, and festoons. The wooden doors are fitted with wrought iron grilles in a spider's web pattern. A stone plinth runs along the base of the building. The building forms a group with Nos. 67 to 79 (odd) and the Town Hall.
