Description

Dundas Farm is a farmhouse dating to the later 17th century. It is constructed of red and grey brick in a Sussex bond, with the left side partly rebuilt or refaced with darker bricks. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has a hipped form. The building follows a lobby-entry plan, with three ‘bays’ and a stack ‘bay.’ It rises two storeys and has an attic, built on a brick plinth. A plat band is visible to the right of the stack, and a short length extends over the window to the left ‘bay.’ There is a multiflue brick stack set into the rear slope of the roof, to the left of the centre. Rear dormers are also present. The windows are irregular, with four casements; one leaded three-light window to the left of the stack, a two-light multi-pane casement beneath the stack, and two similar two-light casements to the right. Similar windows are on the ground floor, those to the right featuring segmental heads. A ribbed wooden door is located within a small flint porch with brick dressings, and a gabled roof covered in plain tiles, positioned under the stack. A single-storey brick wing, built in a similar bond and with a hipped plain tile roof, adjoins the right side of the main range, with a further addition set at a right angle between them. The interior features chamfered axial beams on both floors in each ‘bay.’ A large brick fireplace with a wooden bressumer is located to the right of the stack, and a smaller fireplace with an angled back is on the left. A staircase is positioned behind the stack, with dowel balusters and splat newels. The roof is characterised by staggered butt-purlins.
