Description

Whitehall Cottage is a farmhouse, originally part of a row of houses, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with 19th-century alterations. The building features a timber frame, with the ground floor, the right gable end, and a strip along the right edge of the first floor constructed of chequered red and grey brick. The first floor is tile-hung, while most of the right gable and the right return wing are rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is arranged in an L-plan, with a right return wing and an extension to the left. The main range has two storeys, while the left section is single storey, with a hipped roof sloping to the left. A red brick stack is located at the right gable end, with another red brick stack at the centre of the left section and a ridge stack at the centre of the wing. The building has one three-light casement window on the first floor, a recessed glazing bar sash with marginal glazing bars on the right gable end, and a half-glazed door at the centre of the left extension. There is also a half-glazed door to the right of centre in the right wing. The interior has only been partially inspected but features chamfered beams and joists.
