Description
Bushy Ruff House and Terrace is a house dating from the mid-19th century, located on the north side of Alkham Valley Road in Temple Ewell. The house is constructed of stucco over brick and flint, with a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a basement, featuring rusticated quoins and a parapet to a hipped roof, with stacks positioned at the end to the left and the centre right. The windows are six-sash with louvered shutters on the first floor, and four French doors with louvered shutters on the ground floor. The central left entrance features a door of six moulded panels, flanked by sidelights, and a rectangular fanlight within a traceried, panelled architrave with pilasters and cornice. A trellised verandah with a tented roof runs along the ground floor. A single-storey extension from the 20th century is attached to the left. The house is set on a paved terrace, accessible from the right return via a flight of ten moulded steps with low side walls and capped piers. Two-storey and basement canted bays are present on the right return. Following fire damage, the interior was gutted and was being restored at the time of survey. The structural walls are of red brick, partly in English bond with flint, and have simple lath and plaster partitions.
