Description

Invicta House, also known as Ye Olde King's Arms, is a notable building located at 63 Strand Street, dated 1592 on the corner post. The structure is a timber-framed building that dates from the early part of the 16th century and was refaced in the late 18th century. It retains the overhang of the first floor supported by carved brackets, with the corner bracket shaped like a centaur, which also features the date. The building has tiled roofs and consists of two storeys, while No 65 has three storeys. There are three windows facing north and five windows facing east. The front is stuccoed and includes a modillion eaves cornice. The sash windows, which have intact glazing bars, include some with pointed Gothic panes. The doorway on the east front is flanked by pilasters and has a flat hood above, situated beneath the overhang. The two southernmost window bays of the east front are a complete 18th century or early 19th century extension. Invicta House is part of a group with Nos 63 to 71 (odd).
