Description
The medieval undercroft at number 10 Bench Street is likely from the 13th century. It consists of two linked stone chambers featuring an external lancet window and a wide chamfered pointed arch, with remnants of a springing arch to the left. Inside, there is a similar arch at right angles that divides the chambers, and the ceiling is barrel vaulted. The house above this undercroft, which was number 10 Bench Street, was built around 1840 but was destroyed by a fire in 1977 and has since been demolished.
