Description

White House Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations from the 17th century and cladding added in the 18th century. It features a timber frame clad with painted brick and has a plain tiled roof. The original design was a hall house plan with at least one jettied crosswing, possibly of Wealden type. The building has one storey, a basement, and an attic, all set on a plinth with a brick modillion eaves cornice. The hipped roof has gablets, three hipped semi-dormers, and stacks located to the centre right and end left.

On the ground floor, there are three segmentally headed wooden casements and a half-glazed door to the centre right, which is topped by a flat hood. There is a basement opening to the left, along with outshots to the left and rear. Inside, the farmhouse retains arched braced framed partitions and a dragon beam. The ceiling joists feature tongued chamfer stops. The main stack is constructed from chalk blocks with red brick repairs, and the ground floor includes inglenooks. The roof has staggered purlins and queen struts, raised about 18 inches off the wall plate when the hall was ceiled in, now supported by posts resting on the tie beams.
