Description
This is a row of three headstones located 20 metres north of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. The first headstone belongs to Mary Pilcher, dating from the early 18th century, and stands about 2 feet high, featuring a crude skull and crossbones motif. The second headstone is for Elizabeth Pilcher, who died in 1752, and Henry Pilcher, who died in 1757. This headstone is also about 2 feet high and is decorated with a complete rocaille head, floriated and scrolled shoulders, three cherub heads, and a death's head. The third headstone is for Thomas Wood, a yeoman from the mid-18th century, standing about 2½ feet high. It is adorned with a scythe, sickle, death's head, skull and bones, and a figure of time, possibly holding an hourglass and scythe, all crudely carved.
