Description

Block Number 46, also known as the School Block, is a building constructed in 1909 by Sir Henry Tanner. It features a pebbledash exterior with red brick dressings and a plain tiled roof. The structure includes a library range with classrooms projecting to the south and common rooms to the north.

The main elevation consists of five projecting wings, with the two end wings designed as pedimented pavilions. The three central wings have hipped roofs, all supported by a plinth, quoins, and a modillion eaves cornice. There are segmental semi-dormers on the left and right, along with three pedimented semi-dormers in the center that include side lights. The library has a large transverse roof topped with a central balustraded cupola featuring a weather vane.

The single-storey side wings have glazing bar sashes, segmental semi-dormers, and half-glazed doors. There are 20th-century additions to the rear. Inside, the library boasts a wooden truss roof with curved braces and an inserted floor.
