Description
The garden wall to the former Sutton Place, which fronts Parsonage Lane and then turns to the north-west before returning to the south-west, is a notable structure. The wall is partly located in the parish of Darenth. It dates from the early 17th century, around the time when the original house, known as Brook Place, was rebuilt by Sir Thomas Smythe, a diplomat and navigator who passed away in 1625. The wall is constructed of red brick in English Bond and varies in height from approximately 3 to 8 feet. It features a dogtooth cornice and hipped coping. On the north-east side, there is a blocked brick archway, and some sections of the wall include patches of stock or modern brickwork.
