Description
The Church of St John is a Methodist church located on Argyle Road. Built in 1868, it was originally a Wesleyan Chapel. The building is constructed of red brick up to a stone string course, with a rendered and pebbledashed first floor. The ground floor features yellow brick quoins, and the first floor is plastered. A moulded cornice sits below a pediment which bears a plaque stating "Wesley Chapel 1868". The front elevation has three first-floor windows with double semi-circular arches and complete glazing bars, and a central doorway with a similar arch above. The doorway features a glazed fanlight and a pair of doors, each with two panels using bolection moulding, with a matching pair of panels above. Side walls also have large windows in a similar style. The building has iron railings, a flight of steps, a slate roof and yellow brick elsewhere. All glazing bars are complete.
