Description
The Cathedral Choir School is a large L-shaped building that has developed over several periods. The north wing dates back to the 14th century and is constructed of squared flints. This section was originally the Table Hall for Christchurch Monastery and features four pointed windows with tracery and some very fine corbels.
The east-west wing is divided into two sections. The eastern half showcases a chequered pattern of stone and flints, with 15th-century windows made of stone and flints in the east gable end. A modern bay window has been added to the south front, supported by very fine 16th-century carved female brackets. The western half of the wing is from the late 17th century, consisting of two storeys and an attic built of plastered brick. It has a roof with two dormers, an eaves cornice, a stringcourse, and four casement windows.
