Description
Waltham Court was built in 1796 as the Poorhouse for the parishes of Waltham, Petham, Crundall, and Lower Hardres. It closed in 1828 and was then converted into a Methodist Chapel, Beershop, and Bakery, known as "The Charity," where services were held until 1885. In 1909, it was transformed into a residence. The building consists of two parallel ranges and is two storeys high with attics, constructed from red brick. It features a tiled roof with two dormers and a modillion eaves cornice. There are three casement windows and a modern porch at the top of eight steps, which is built over a round-headed doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight.
