Description
Handville Green is a historic house with parts dating back to around 1300. Originally, it featured an open hall with a service wing and a solar above. A wing was added in 1537, and the building has undergone more recent alterations. It is primarily a timber-framed structure, with some 16th-century herringbone pattern brick nogging on the south-west side and an overhang, although it has mostly been refaced with red brick and flints in the 18th century. The house has a hipped tiled roof topped with a 16th-century chimneystack and stands two storeys high. It has four casement windows and a modern door. The L-shaped wing added at the back is constructed of flints and brick. Inside, there are two inglenook fireplaces from 1537, entrances for the pantry and buttery, and the roof from around 1300, which is largely intact and features tie beams and collar construction. The house is noted for its significant interior features. Originally named Handville Green, it was the residence of the Handville family.
