Description

Wincheap House is a 16th-century timber-framed house that has been significantly altered in the 18th century and later, but retains features from its original construction. It is a three-story building. The ground and second floors are faced in red brick, while the first floor is tile-hung. Two half-hipped gables feature casement windows. The remaining windows are sash windows with original glazing bars. Two small bay windows on the first floor are supported by carved brackets, replacing earlier oriel windows. Larger bay windows with wooden shutters are present on the ground floor. The 16-panel front door, dating from the 16th century, has a rectangular fanlight added in the early 19th century; this fanlight sits between the brackets of the overhanging first floor and contains ogee-shaped divisions.
