Description

The Old Workhouse is a former poorhouse, dating from the 17th century with later additions in the 19th century. It comprises three parallel ranges. The front two ranges were likely built in the 17th century and subsequently refaced in the 19th century, while the rear range was constructed in 1878. The building is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof and a brick modillion cornice. The front features two sash windows with original glazing bars and a double doorcase with cambered architraves. A diaper pattern of black brick appears on the gable of the front range. The building is listed primarily for its sociological significance.
