Description
No. 8 Palace Street is a house constructed from medieval and later fragments brought from other locations, likely dating to the late 19th century. It is a three-storey timber-framed building with plaster infill, featuring curved braces. The roof is covered in old tiles. Inside, exposed joists and finely moulded bressumers are visible, embellished with scrollwork and coil moulding. The windows are continuous lancets with leaded lights; the ground floor windows are double lancets flanked by Victorian Tudor Rose ornaments. A restored central doorcase features plain spandrels, and the ground floor is marked by two Sun Fire Office plaques from 1710. The side elevation is tile-hung and includes a gable with two small lancet windows. The interior retains moulded beams and two stone arches. A plaque denotes its status as a historic building in Kent. Nos. 1, 2, and Nos. 4 to 8 form a group.
