Description
Sondes House is an L-shaped house, with a south-east wing dating to the 17th century. The house is constructed of red brick, with a tile-hung south-west wing that may conceal a timber-frame structure. The south-east wing has two storeys and an attic within a gable facing south-east. The roof is tiled, featuring a shaped Dutch gable, and retains a 17th-century brick chimneystack. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the south-east wing, and a stringcourse is also visible. The wing originally had four windows, some of which are casement windows, while others are sash windows with original glazing bars. Two later bays have been added to both floors. A doorcase with a flat hood supported by brackets is located between these later bays. At the south-west end of the south-east front is an oversailing gable, containing three casement windows.
