Description
The former Blackfriars Monastery is a building dating from the 13th century and later. It is two storeys high and faced with flint, featuring stone quoins. The roof is tiled and has been restored. On the first floor, there are four double lancet windows with quatrefoil heads and stone cills. The ground floor primarily has restored mullions. A porch with steps leads to the first floor, and the doors are designed with four-centred arches.
To the left, there is a two-storey extension built in red brick between 1763 and 1764, resting on a stone base. This extension features round-headed or plain casements with leaded lights and a 18th-century six-panelled door. The ground floor includes an undercroft supported by stone octagonal-sided columns and features a brick diagonal ribbed vaulting, along with a stone floor. There are also traces of timber framing visible within the red brick extension.
This building forms a group with the wall on the right side of Blackfriars Monastery and the Monastery Guest House on St Peter's Lane.
