Description

The Church of St Mary was built in 1831-2 by Rickman and Hutchinson in an early English style. It is constructed of flint with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The church comprises a chancel, nave, and a north-west tower. The tower serves as a porch on the ground floor, with an octagonal upper storey surmounted by a stone broach spire. Lancet windows are present throughout. A modern pantiled roof now covers the building. A 13th-century font is located within. The churchyard, which predates the current church building, contains 18th-century headstones featuring cherub, shell, or skull motifs, early 19th-century Neo-Grecian headstones, chest tombs and oval bodystones.
