Description
No. 52 Dover Street is a 16th-century timber-framed building that has been refaced. It stands two storeys tall with painted brick and features an old tiled mansard roof with two dormers. The building has a brick modillion cornice, and the first floor includes two three-light 19th-century casement windows. There is an overhang, along with a 19th-century bar front and recessed doorcases. A rear extension shows traces of the original timber framing and brick infill. According to tradition, the French architect Mansart stayed in Canterbury and introduced the mansard roof style here.
