Description
Calehill House is a building originally constructed as stables for the earliest Calehill House, although it was built at a later date. Around 1930, it was converted into a picture gallery and ballroom. Following the demolition of the 18th century Calehill House, it has since been referred to as Calehill House. This structure dates back to the early 17th century and is one storey high with attics, built from red brick. It features a half-hipped tiled roof with two half-hipped gables that contain attic windows, along with one modern dormer situated between them. The building has a brick modillion cornice resembling machicolation and ornamental lead guttering, with three rainwater pipes descending from it. There are seven casement windows, each with two tiers of two lights, set in stone surrounds that include brick dripstones, stone mullions, and transoms. The stone doorway has a depressed head, above which is a stone panel decorated with strapwork and flanked by scrolls, topped with a pediment. The north wall is devoid of windows but continues the brick modillion cornice and lead guttering along its length.
