Description

The Gate House to the Railway Works, built around 1850 and possibly designed by Samuel Beazley, is a two-storey lodge made of red brick with grey headers and a slate roof. It features gabled ends with plain bargeboards and simple sash windows with verticals only. The entrance has a round-headed doorcase. Attached to the northwest is a brick clock tower, also of red brick, which slightly tapers towards the top. The upper stage of the clock tower is made of yellow brick and has a triple opening on each side, topped with a pyramidal cap and finial. The base of the tower is rusticated, and there is a modern extension on the ground floor.
