Description
Monkton Manor is a hall house that dates from the 15th century and 18th century. It is timber framed and partly clad in painted brick, with a painted rubble plinth and a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys, featuring end jetties and a hipped roof with a large stack on the left side and another stack at the rear right. The structure consists of three bays, with a screens passage that now includes an inserted stack. The central bay on the ground floor has been rebuilt in painted brick, and the first-floor joists are positioned higher than those in the two side bays, indicating that the central recessed hall of this "Wealden" house has been infilled and ceiled over. The fenestration is irregular, with three casement windows, and there is a 20th-century plank door located to the centre left. At the rear, there is a wing built in early 18th-century red brick, which also has a hipped plain tile roof. This wing has two storeys, a plinth, a plat band, and a stack to the right, featuring two windows on each floor with wood casements and segmental heads on the ground floor.
