Description

This is a timber-framed building, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with plaster infilling. It comprises numbers 19 and 21 High Street. The roof is half-hipped and tiled. The upper floor has three sash windows with original glazing bars. Casement windows are located on the ground floor. A shed projects from the front of the ground floor of number 19. A ground floor addition constructed of painted brick is attached to the west side of number 21. Historically, this building served as a forge; a circular iron slab with a central iron stake, approximately one foot high, stands outside, used for the repair of cart wheels. A footpath in front of the building and extending approximately 12 yards to the south-east is paved with Bethersden marble.
