Description
Apsley House, formerly a National School, was designed by Alexander Apsley in the Italianate style and dates from 1841. It is constructed of red brick. The central section is two storeys high, featuring a hipped slate roof and a wooden bracket cornice. The building has rusticated quoins, with a round-headed window on the first floor. The ground floor includes two windows and a central doorcase that has a stone architrave, cornice, and brackets. On either side of the central section are one-storey passages that match the main style, connecting to one-storey pavilions that also have hipped slate roofs and bracket cornices. The front elevation has two sash windows, while the side elevation features eight sash windows. In front of the building, there are cast iron spear railings with a fleur de lys pattern.
