Description
The Old House Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel, built in 1707. It features brick walls made of blue headers with flush red quoins, and has rubbed flat and oval arches. The building includes moulded bands on the first and second floors, as well as moulded impost bands above the ground-floor oval arches, which have brick-filled spandrels. The roof is tiled, with a catslide at the rear.
The symmetrical front elevation on the northwest side is three storeys high and has five windows, with original sash windows in exposed frames. The entrance is framed by a doorcase in the full Roman Doric Order, complete with a segmental pediment, fluted pilasters on pedestals, an architrave, and a seven-panelled door (with the top three panels glazed), accessed by stone steps.
On the south side, there is an entrance gate with simple brick piers topped with pineapples. The long rear wing, which is of a similar style, has two storeys and an attic with five windows. Inside, there is a room featuring complete pinewood panelling, additional panelling in the hall, and an original dog-leg staircase with turned balusters set within vertical panelling.
