Description

This is a threshing barn located at Little Snakemoor Farm, dating to the mid-18th century. It is a timber-framed barn built upon a brick base. The exterior is predominantly clad in weatherboarding with sections covered in corrugated iron. The roof is hipped and originally thatched, but is now covered in corrugated iron. There is a prominent cart entrance on the south side with a hipped roof, supported by double curved braces, and a lower entrance on the north side.

The interior comprises four bays, including a cart bay; one bay to the east of the cart bay, two to the west, and an integral outshot to the west. The aisle posts rest on brick padstones and feature jowls with cut profiles. The roof structure consists of an angled queenpost, purlins, and pegged rafters without a ridgepiece. The outshot mirrors the main barn’s framing and retains some original weatherboarding to the partition wall. The barn represents a good example of an 18th-century aisled timber-framed threshing barn with a substantially intact frame.
