Description
The Deanery, incorporating Prior's Hall, is a Grade I listed building dating from 1833, with parts dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The structure is now divided into two floors and attics. The Long Gallery, which is now a library, was constructed between 1666 and 1679, with the south window added in 1805. The central part of the house is from the 17th century and features a notable staircase. The main entrance has a portico with three 13th-century arches and a two-storey Tudor stone building above it. Inside, there are Purbeck marble piers and shafts, and the hall has a timber roof with arched braces. The building has old tile roofs and good chimneys, although some have been rebuilt. The main part of the building underwent extensive restoration in 1971. The Long Gallery is made of red brick and has an open ground floor with five lattice windows above. All listed buildings in the Close form a group.
