Description

The Church of St Boniface is a parish church with Saxon origins, primarily dating from the 14th century, and includes a 13th-century transept. It was restored by G.E. Street in 1881. The church features an aisless nave and chancel, a south transept, and a south porch beneath the tower. Its walls are made of rubble stone, with 14th-century windows that have Decorated tracery. The west window consists of three lights with Reticulated tracery, while the transept has a three-light cusped window from the 15th century. The roof is tiled, and the tower, which rises above the eaves, is covered with shingles and topped by a shingled broach spire.

Inside, the eastern part of the chancel is Victorian, while the rest of the interior is plain but adorned with several wall monuments from the early 19th century. Notable features include an Elizabethan pulpit and a mid-19th-century Perpendicular octagonal font. The transept has a western arch that is partially blocked by the east end of the nave wall and contains several interesting monuments. These include an elaborate Jacobean/classical tomb with recumbent figures of Richard (1613) and Maria (1622) Mille, a classical monument to Thomas Knollys from 1751, a stone slab with inset brasses for Thomas Mundy from 1623, and some medieval tiles set into the wall. On the west wall of the nave, there is a hatchment and a Royal Coat of Arms from 1782.
