Description
Griffon House, located at Northcliffe School, was originally the stables of Grove Place. This building dates back to the 16th century, with most of its structure being from the early 19th century, and it underwent a conversion in the late 20th century. The stables and barn form three sides of a courtyard, with the stables converted into a dwelling. The walls are made of brick in English bond, featuring cambered arches over the ground-floor openings. The roof is tiled with hipped dormers. The building is a long rectangular block with a continuous roof and a central carriage entrance leading to the courtyard. The west side contains a barn with a gabled projecting wagon entrance, which is now filled in, while the lower north wing at the west end is a plain block with a central doorway. The east side has a one-storey and attic elevation with four windows above five. It includes casement windows and a large French door on the east side. The north wing has been transformed into a large room with windows overlooking the courtyard, and there is an entrance porch at the angle of the building.
