Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that was encased in the 18th century and refronted in the late 19th century. It features a timber frame covered in brick, with tile-hung gables and a front made of flint, accented with brick and stone dressing and tiled coping. The cottage is two stories high and has three bays, with a rear outshot.
The central entrance door, which is from the 20th century, is flanked by brick piers that support a moulded cornice and a gabled hood. On either side of the entrance are canted hip-roofed bays containing small panes in the upper sections. The first floor features a small round window in the center, surrounded by white and blue ceramic tiles, with segmental-headed cross windows on either side. The right bay has full-height brick pilasters adorned with white ceramic tiles. A red and yellow brick string course runs along the first floor, with stone bands and a machiolated eaves cornice higher up. The cottage has a central ridge stack with similar ridge tiles on either side. Inside, much of the 17th-century timber framing is exposed.
