Description
North Lodge is one of a pair of lodges located on either side of the entrance driveway, situated on the north side. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone alterations and extensions in the 20th century. The lodge features yellow brickwork in Flemish bond, with arches over the ground-floor openings that are recessed at the front. There is a plain stone band at the impost level and a steeply-pitched hipped roof with eaves supported by coupled modillion-brackets. The structure is almost square and has a symmetrical form, with a sash window on the east front and a Coade stone panel depicting putti harvesting grapes above it. The entrance elevation facing the driveway includes a window above an arched doorway, which has a six-panelled door. Each corner of the lodge is marked by piers, with the rear piers indicating the gateway. Extending to the north side is a two-storeyed wing built in the late 20th century using tile and brick. In front of this wing, a low wall curves from the corner of the pavilion to meet an outer pier made of yellow brickwork with a stone cap, topped by a decorative metal rail.
