Description
Aldershot Military Museum, M Block is a barrack hut built in 1894, now serving as a museum archive. The building is constructed of brick with yellow brick dressings and features three brick front lateral stacks and a slate roof. It has a single-depth plan and is a single storey structure. The exterior showcases a 3:3:4-window range with a low plinth, yellow brick quoins, and a brick dentil eaves cornice. There is an off-centre gable with rubbed brick segmental arches above 6/6-pane horned sash windows. A later flat-roofed service block with three small windows obscures the gable. On the opposite side, there is a 3:6:2-window range separated by gabled porches that have recessed doors. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to contain plain, ceiled barrack rooms with privies in recesses along the sides. This building is part of Oudinard Barracks, Marlborough Lines, and, along with N Block, represents one of the last two examples of ordinary soldiers' accommodation at Aldershot from the rebuilding of the original hutted camp between 1881 and 1898.
