Description

Aldershot Military Museum, N Block is a barrack hut built in 1894, now serving as a museum. It is constructed of brick with yellow brick dressings and features three brick front lateral stacks and a slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan and is a single storey high. The exterior displays a 3:3:4-window arrangement, with a low plinth, yellow brick quoins, and a brick dentil eaves cornice. The off-centre gable has rubbed brick segmental arches over 6/6-pane horned sash windows. A later flat-roofed service block obscures the gable and contains three small windows. The opposite side features a 3:6:2-window range divided by gabled porches with recessed doors. Inside, the barrack rooms are plain and ceiled, with privies located in recesses along the sides. Historically, this building is part of Oudinard barracks at Marlborough Lines and is one of the last two examples of ordinary soldiers' accommodation at Aldershot from the rebuilding of the original hutted camp between 1881 and 1898.
