Description

Newlands Manor is a late 18th and early 19th century house built in a Gothic style, reminiscent of the simpler work of James Wyatt. The symmetrical facade is faced with Roman cement and the house now comprises separate dwellings. The main south-facing front has nine windows, arranged around a central three-window portion flanked by octagonal buttresses with pointed, crocketed pinnacles. Plain buttresses occur between the other windows, topped with smaller pinnacles. A castellated parapet runs along the entire front. A loggia is situated on the ground floor, centrally, and is divided into bays by buttresses, each with a castellated parapet and pinnacles above. The windows are Gothic in style and feature glazing bars. The east front has six windows, although the ground floor may have been built out at a later date. Inside, there is an open-well iron staircase with straight balusters and stone steps, and six-panel doors. At the rear, lower brick buildings, also converted into houses, are present. The listed buildings within the Newlands Manor Estate are considered to form a group.
