Description
Nos 39 to 42 on St Thomas's Street are 18th-century houses. Nos 39 and 40 have painted brick facades, while Nos 41 and 42 are stuccoed. The buildings have tiled roofs, with No 39 being two storeys tall and the others having two storeys plus one attic dormer each. There are 11 windows in total, featuring sash designs, although only the vertical glazing bars remain. No 39 has a modern shop front, while No 40 features a reproduction bow window and an entrance to a side passage with brackets. Nos 41 and 42 have altered 19th-century shop fronts, with squared bays that retain some glazing bars. These houses, along with Nos 30 to 43 and No 46, form a group with Monmouth House, its gate and overthrow, and Quadrille Court, its wall and gate opposite.
