Description

South Warnborough Lodge is a building from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some late 19th-century alterations. Originally designed as a symmetrical house, it features a central block with two storeys and an attic, flanked by large single-storey wings that were later converted into two-storey structures of unequal height. An irregular two-storey extension, added in the late 19th century, is located at the west end and is not of special interest.

The south-east facade showcases a pattern of three sets of three windows. The building has a hipped slate roof and two flat-roofed dormers. The exterior is finished in stucco, with a parapet that has a coping and a moulded cornice, along with pilasters at the central section and the older part of the west wing, and a plinth. The Victorian sash windows are set in reveals, with the three windows in the wings featuring a wider central opening; the west side has a French light, while the east side has an arched window.

An arched doorway is set within a wide rectangular projection, adorned with a moulded pediment, keystone, and impost bands, leading to double doors. The north-west facade has a two-window centrepiece, with the wings projecting to form semi-circular ends, each containing one window. The mansard slate roof also has two flat-roofed dormers. The stucco walling features a parapet and a moulded cornice on the wings, with cambered openings for the large wing windows, one of which includes a lion-head ornament in the filled spandrel. The Victorian sash windows in the wings have reeded frames. A semicircular porch with windows in the curving walls flanks the entrance, topped with a fully-moulded Greek-style entablature that includes a course of rounded dentils and panelled pilasters.
